Next Monday evening sees Whitley Bay play their most prestigious pre-season friendly for several years when they welcome Scottish Premiership side St Mirren to Hillheads.
‘The Buddies’, who finished eighth in the SPL last season, are managed by former Newcastle United midfielder and coach Tommy Craig, and they will certainly provide a stern test for Leon Ryan’s side in what will be Whitley’s final home friendly before the Northern League season kicks-off on Saturday, August 9, when Consett will be the visitors to Hillheads.
St Mirren, who are based in Paisley, just outside Glasgow, will be bringing a good number of fans over the border for the game, which has a 7.30pm kick-off with admission £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
Meanwhile on Saturday, Whitley have another attractive home friendly, this time against Atherton Collieries, from the Greater Manchester area.
Atherton are members of the North West Counties League first division and this will be the first time that the sides have met. Kick-off is at 3pm.
