Toughest challenge yet for Seahorses

WHITLEY Bay FC travel to league champions Spennymoor Town this weekend for what will be their toughest game of the season so far.

Whitley are on an excellent run of league form and before their game at Billingham Synthonia last night (Wednesday), they were unbeaten with seven wins and a draw from their eight league games, whereas Spennymoor had won four, drawn four and lost one of their nine games, leaving them three points adrift of Whitley having played two more games.

With former Bay players Leon Ryan and Adam Johnston in their squad, the Moors will be anxious to close the gap at the top end of the table.

Despite their good start to the season, Ian Chandler’s side have yet to reach the level of performance that they would wish.

They will be hoping that several players who have been suffering injuries will be fit for the game.

In particular, Chris Reid must be a doubt, while there are also question marks over the fitness of Craig McFarlane and Gary Ormston, pictured.

Whitley are without a midweek game next week allowing them time to prepare for the top of the table clash with Sunderland RCA at Hillheads the following Saturday.
