West Allotment Celtic have won the Northern League’s Programme of the Year competition for the 2014-15 season, narrowly beating Jarrow Roofing and Seaham Red Star to the prize.
This year’s production, a 32-page effort printed by North Shields’ YourPrintDepartment, was described as “superb in every way”, “lovely and professional, so easy to read” and “thoughtful, bright and colourful” by a panel of judges that included BBC journalist Owen Amos, Look North correspondent Ian Reeve, ex-Newcastle United programme editor Paul Tully and league chaplain Rev Leo Osborn.
“We’re thrilled to have built on our third place in 2013-14, particularly given the strength of the competition this year,” said outgoing press officer Craig Dobson.
“Our thanks go to Stephen Allott for providing the beguiling ‘On This Day’ feature and the myriad statistics sent our way; Graeme Jackson, our photographer, whose action shots bring the programme to life; Micky Wilson for selling them on the gate; and the players and supporters for buying into it. It’s very much a team effort.”
Allotment also thanked their commercial partners for their effort and support, local sponsors such as Thomas Potter, Wade Financial, CoPo and Moorview Veterinary Practice making the production possible.
