Whitley Bay FC begin search for a new manager

Whitley Bay FC are inviting applications for the post of first team manager.

This follows the resignation of Leon Ryan on Wednesday morning.

Applicants should send their CV to Paul McIlduff, Chairman, Whitley Bay FC, Hillheads Park, Rink Way, Whitley Bay NE25 8HR as soon as possible.

Ryan quit the morning after a 4-2 home defeat to local rivals North Shields.

He said work and family commitments had forced the difficult decision.

Ryan had been appointed in February following Ian Chandler’s resignation.

His first few months in charge saw a dramatic upturn in fortunes, with the club reaching the Northern League Cup Final at St James’ Park.

But things have not worked out as well this season, with only a mid-table placing and a Northumberland Senior Cup semi-final to show for his efforts.

He played a total of 208 games for Whitley Bay and scored 32 goals, including three this season as he combined his managerial duties with playing.
