Whitley Bay kick-off the new season on Saturday with an FA Cup tie against Norton and Stockton Ancients.
The Hillheads outfit were the region’s most successful non league club in last year’s competition, progressing through four ties to reach the third qualifying round where they were narrowly defeated by National League North side Chorley.
This season, they begin the competition at home against the Teesiders who completed a league double over them last season, despite ending up in a relegation position.
The Bay management team of Ian Chandler and Marc Nash will be looking for a better result this time to set up another good cup run and will be hoping for a good turn out of fans to get behind the team. Kick-off is 3pm.
Should the game end level after 90 minutes, the replay would be on Teesside on Wednesday evening.
It has been a good pre-season for Whitley with five wins out of five, but with last Saturday’s friendly against Lincoln United cancelled by the visitors, it was not possible to arrange a new game at short notice.
Whitley are due to begin their league season on Tuesday evening with a tough game at home to last season’s third placed Guisborough Town, kick-off 7.45pm, but this game is dependent on neither team having an FA Cup replay.
