The season may only just have started but on Saturday the extra preliminary round of the Emirates sponsored FA Cup takes centre stage with 184 ties taking place across the country.

Whitley Bay will be at home to Sunderland Ryhope CW, who include former Bay manager and captain Leon Ryan in their ranks.

Ryan was manager at Hillheads this time last year before resigning due to work commitments.

Also in the Ryhope squad is former Bay FA Vase winner Richard Hodgson.

Whitley will go into the game without Peter Watling but with confidence boosted by their opening day league victory over West Auckland.

They will be aiming to overcome their Wearside opponents and claim the £1,500 prize money, but the second division side will be tough opponents.

If the game ends in a draw, the replay will take place at Ryhope on Tuesday, August 18, but if there is a winner on the day, Whitley will be at home to Newcastle Benfield in a Northern League game on that Tuesday evening, kick-off 7.30pm.
