Whitley Bay welcome ex-boss Chandler back to Hillheads

Former Whitley Bay manager Ian Chandler returns to Hillheads on Saturday when his new side Durham City are the visitors.

It will be only his second visit to the ground since departing back in February, and if there was any doubt in his mind as to the regard in which he is still held at the club it will be dispelled when he sees the recently painted mural in which he features among the club’s FA Vase winning heroes.

Durham have made a good start to the season and Chandler will be keen to make amends for the end of season 4-1 defeat his side suffered at Hillheads in April just after he had taken over at City.

Whitley, though, will be aiming to continue their good run of form as Leon Ryan, who was captain under Chandler in Whitley’s 2010 FA Vase winning side, pits his wits against his former boss.

Tuesday evening sees Whitley in action at Hillheads once again when Ashington are the visitors in what is always a keenly contested local derby.

Last season, both games between the teams went the way of the home side, but only by a single goal margin, and with the Colliers improving after a poor start to the season, another close game can be expected. Kick-off is at 7.30pm.
