Whitley Bay's season extended into May after another postponement
Just when it seemed as if the local football season was getting back on track, persistent rain on Friday resulted in the majority of the weekend's Northern League games being called off.
Whitley Bay’s fixture at Marske was no exception, with the North Yorkshire side’s ground waterlogged following 24 hours of continuous rain.
With Ian Chandler’s side having a minimum of 20 games still to play, it has not been possible to rearrange the fixture before the season was originally due to finish at the end of April, so the FA have granted an extension and the game will now be played on Tuesday, May 3.
Any more postponements could result in the season being extended still further.
Meanwhile Whitley Bay FC have announced that tickets are now on sale for the North Tyneside derby against North Shields at Hillheads on Easter Monday, March 28.
The game, which has a midday kick-off, is not all-ticket but fans are being encouraged to buy tickets in advance to reduce queues at the turnstiles as a large crowd is expected.
Tickets are on sale at the normal prices of £6 for adults and £4 for concessions and are available from the Seahorse clubhouse and from Beckman’s Newsagents in Hillheads Road.
