Whitley enjoy a rare win at Consett with four goals

WHITLEY Bay won at Consett’s Belle Vue Park in midweek after seven defeats in their previous ten visits made Whitley’s record their worst against any Northern League side.

Whitley started well, quickly putting the Consett defence under pressure, with Lee Paul Scroggins and Lee Kerr going close, and they deservedly took the lead on the quarter hour when Paul Chow played an excellent ball through to Phill Bell who raced clear before hitting a great shot into the bottom corner.

A little more than a minute into the second half, a misplaced clearance by Poskett fell for Kerr just inside the 18-yard box and he quickly played it out to the right for Chow shot across the keeper into the far corner.

They increased their lead on the hour when Kerr’s right wing corner was nodded into the goalmouth by Bell and Robbie Dale got his head to the ball, diverting it past Poskett.

It was substitute Kyle Downey who had the final say when he added Whitley’s fourth and his first for the club just a minute from time – a rasping shot into the roof of the net.
