Willington Quay Saints’ annual Fordy Cup in memory of club founder Graham Ford raised a superb £1,625 for the British Heart Foundation as friends and family put on another fine tribute for a great man.
A minute’s silence was held before the game but that was to be the only quite moment of the day as people came from all over to remember and celebrate the life of Graham, with more than 100 in attendance.
The game played between the over-30s and under-30s ended in a 5-1 win for the youngsters with Neil Giles (2), Micky Young, Micky Turner and Ian McCartney on the score sheet. Martin Ellis netted a consolation for the veterans from the penalty spot.
The over-30s saw a host of former Saints pull on the coveted green top as well as Graham’s close friends Allan Clark, Micky Larkin and Tony Bell, who came on in an attempt to turn the game around.
Back at the ‘Morg’ (Willington Quay Social), there were numerous fundraising events and special thanks went to everyone who kindly donated prizes and money which saw the generosity of people raise a massive amount for charity.
