Men’s hockey team suffer heavy defeat to Formby

Whitley Bay and Tynemouth Hockey Club men’s first team suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat away to Formby.

Both teams had early periods of possession as Formby played long aerial balls to their high forwards and Whitley Bay looked to build their play from the back.

Both styles cancelled each other out for the majority of a tight opening period until Formby finally grabbed the lead on the stroke of half-time with a low stroke into the bottom corner.

Formby started the second half brightly and won an early short corner which was finished high into the net and then quickly grabbed a third minutes later.

Whitley Bay looked shell shocked but managed to steady the ship and pull a goal back when Titmus finished from close range.

The away team soon had two men in the sin bin and Formby took full advantage grabbing their fourth from close range.

Whitley Bay’s heads dropped and suddenly Formby had time to pick their passes at ease, running in two easy goals to give them a 6-1 win, which did not look likely at half-time but was certainly deserved.
