Double win as Warriors go top of table

Whitley Warriors followed Saturday’s 10-3 road victory over Sutton Sting with a 7-2 home win against the same side on Sunday evening to return to the top of NIHL North 1, writes Emma Hill.

Forward Callum Queenan beat netminder Lewis King just 44 seconds in to give his side a 1-0 lead which was doubled by Rolands Gritāns on 6:28. Harry Harley’s shot made it 3-0 and Whitley claimed a fourth on a power play through Ben Campbell.

Campbell snatched his second goal 45 seconds into the middle period but Sutton retaliated to make it 5-1. Whitley responded through Shaun Kippin but Sutton’s Oliver Mitchell netted on a power play for 6-2. Whitley had the final say in the third period through Gritāns as the Warriors went above Solway Sharks.
