After defender Rolands Gritāns opened the scoring with a power play goal on 10:26, Whitley made it 2-0 40 seconds into the middle period when left winger Ben Campbell unleashed a shot which flew over netminder Nicholas Winters.

Sutton replied with two goals in the third period courtesy of defencemen Tom Relf and Tyler Nixon to take the game into a five-minute period of three-on-three overtime which was goalless. Penalty shots ensued and Gritāns gave his team the edge scoring twice to give Whitley a 3-2 victory.
