Whitley edged ahead in the first period when Phil Edgar scored on 8:16 and Ben Richards made it 2-0 but Murrayfield pulled back a goal 52 seconds before the second interval through Callum Boyd on the power play.

Murrayfield’s captain Joel Gautschi surprised Whitley with an equaliser 49 seconds into the third period. Forward Archie Holmes then tapped home to give the Racers a 3-2 lead but Warriors’ Ross Murray drew level at 3-3. Boyd then scored either side of a shorthanded goal from Edgar to complete his hat-trick, making it 6-4, and thirty one seconds later, Gautschi followed suit, sealing his hat-trick.
