Whitley gained a lead on 6:26 through Callum Watson before Ben Campbell added a second on 13:34. In response, Czech Petr Valusiak struck twice to level at 2-2, but Phil Edgar drilled the puck home for a 3-2 interval lead..

The Warriors started the second period with two quick goals from captain Dean Holland and Edgar before Callum Queenan added a power play goal for 6-2 at the end of the second stanza.

Unable to find the target in the third period, Whitley watched Hawks’ Player-Coach James Neil print his name onto the scoresheet but this was no more than a consolation for Blackburn as Whitley secured a 6-3 victory.
