Warriors hit Stars for six
Whitley Warriors achieved a 6-0 win over local rivals Billingham Stars at Hillheads on Sunday evening, writes Emma Hill.
Making a positive start within the opening two minutes of the derby game, Whitley achieved a 3-0 lead. Left winger Ben Campbell was first to beat netminder Mark Watson just thirteen seconds into the contest. The Warriors doubled their lead on 1:17 when Niall Ryder persevered to tap the puck past Watson’s right pad for 2-0 and a third was netted just eight seconds later when forward Ross Douglass fired into the roof of Billingham’s net. Remaining in control, the Warriors made it 4-0 when an unassisted shot from Callum Watson hit the target on 13:51.
After a goalless second period, Whitley saw a fifth goal ruled out for high sticks but forward Adam Finlinson soon made it 5-0, cutting a path from the left of shot stopper Watson before netting on 45:53. Comfortable in their lead, Whitley completed the scoring ten minutes later as forward Callum Queenan found the target with confidence to present the Warriors with a 6-0 win.
