North Shields Artisans won their County Cup quarter-final tie at home to near neighbours Whitley Bay Rockcliff Rangers on Saturday.
Carl Cramman and Paul Grant both made their first starts of the year in the front row while captain Tony Lion was at No. 8.
Artisans started brightly by scoring three tries. Peter Finlay was first before two from winger Ian Hardisty, with Matthew Padden successful with two of the conversions.
Rangers hit back with two tries of their own before Finlay scored his second, which was also converted by Padden to give the hosts a 26-10 lead at the break.
In the second half Artisans added a penalty from Padden before Jack Rendles scored a try, again Padden successful with the extras.
The final try of the day came from centre Kyle Wharton and the conversion from Padden made the final score 43-10 to Artisans.
The semi-final takes place on Saturday, March 7, when Artisans will play either Tynedale Vets or Percy Park Penguins.
Man of the match for Artisans was winger Padden, who had an excellent day with the boot. He just beat fly-half Jack Rendles to win the panel’s decision.
Thanks went to all those who turned for the club, especially those who did not get a game.
