Whitley Bay Barbarians continued their winning streak by defeating Cramlington Rockets 46-24.
The deadlock was broken when Ben Dalton broke through the Cramlington defence to touch down under the sticks, with Gavin Duffy adding the extras with ease.
Cramlington levelled before good play resulted in Jonny Dubois restored Bay’s advantage with Duffy adding the extras once more.
But once again Cramlington replied shortly after to tie the game back at 12-12.
Just before half-time Ian Hardisty crashed over to take the lead once again with Duffy’s third kick making it 18-12.
Whitley Bay started the second half much better with some powerful running with Mark Hall crossing the whitewash and Duffy adding the extras.
Rockets fought back and reduced the deficit to six only for Duffy to score and convert two tries to make it 36-18.
After some good play Christopher Hennessey got his first try of the season by touching down in the corner.
Cramlington went over before Whitley sealed the game off with John Lee scoring underneath the sticks and Duffy’s conversation took the score to 46-24.
Cramlington selected John Lee as Barbarians’ man of the match.
Barbarians’ focus now shifts to Wednesday evening where they face Gateshead Storm A in the semi-final of the North East Cup.
