A young borough athlete beat dozens of others to win a cross country title.
Charlotte Richardson, of Marden Bridge Middle School, is celebrating being the Year 6 Whitley Bay cross country champion.
Charlotte, a member of Gateshead Harriers, fought off stiff competition from more than 50 other pupils to win the race at Valley Gardens.
Mardden PE teacher Paul Cullen said: “It is nice to see Charlotte excelling at other distances which shows the overarching potential she has.”
Charlotte said: “I was really pleased to win this event as there were lots of strong female runners. It was a fun afternoon out and I learnt a lot about myself.”
A week later fellow pupil Joe Menear repeated the feat by winning the Boys’ Year 7 event. Joe surprised even himself with his excellent run and sprint finish.
He said: “I was really surprised I did that well and am really pleased with my achievements.”
