Chris Elliott overcame her greatest fear to become Lightweight Back Tag World Champion last weekend at the World Tae Kwon-Do Championships in Birmingham.
The 45 year-old from Whitley Bay had originally intended to fight in the 2016 championships, but admits she was too frightened to take to the mat.
Instead, her daughters fought in that competition and won gold and silver. Determined to make it a family hat-trick, Chris entered the event again this year and she lifted the title after taking out the current European champion in her semi-final bout.
“I was determined to have the courage to fight this time and it paid off. All three of us now have medals,” she said.
