Club hoping new season will be a smash

THE new season at Cullercoats Tennis Club starts this week with offers on junior and senior membership.

The season kicks off on Saturday, April 2, at the club next to St George’s Church, Cullercoats, when junior coaching begins with head coach Stuart Cass from 9am to 3pm.

The cost of junior membership is £30 which gives youngsters 10 weeks of free coaching on a Saturday or Wednesday from 5pm to 6pm, depending on age, plus access to the club’s three astroturf courts, family social doubles and club tournaments.

After the free coaching, the sessions are £3 per session.

Adult coaching starts on Sunday, April 3.

These are also taken by LTA level 4 senior club coach Stuart Cass and are from 6pm to 7.30pm for intermediates/improvers and from 7.30pm to 9pm for more advanced club team players.

Adult membership is £109 which includes free weekly coaching throughout the season, from April to the end of September.

The club has a strong social tennis scene for members, with popular mix-in doubles sessions every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening from 6.30pm throughout the summer.

This year, the club is running an additional ‘absolute beginners’ group for players who have either never played and want to start, or have not played for many years.

This will run from 5pm to 6pm on Sundays with the first couple of sessions being ‘free try-out’ sessions.

Anyone interested should contact Stuart on 07787 543072 or email

The club held its annual general meeting last week and reported on a successful year in which six senior teams were promoted.
