Collingwood girls top county league

Collingwood Tennis Club’s girls 14s team top the north east winter league after last weekend’s 6-0 victory over Shotley and Benfieldside.

Laura Van Ransbeke and Ailsa Denholm were strong at number one and two, only dropping three games between them, as were Emily Harrison and Molly Robinson at number three and four singles, also only dropping three games in a comprehensive win.

Collingwood mini tennis red team opened the season with a close game with Cullercoats.

Adam Jones and Elizabeth Graham were both making their debuts and performed valiantly, claiming vital wins for the team. They were ably backed up by experienced team players Polly Allonby and Max Thompson, who both also won games for the team but were unable to turn around a narrow 10-6 defeat.

The Collingwood mini orange team also played a strong Cullercoats team with the game ending in a well deserved draw.

Jacob Eccles won both singles at number one for Collingwood and teamed up well in a closely fought doubles with Malcolm Winton. Lewis Hills showed great determination in his first orange game narrowly losing a close singles game.

The star for Collingwood on the day was Lucy Robinson, who showed much technical improvement and concentration to win her singles games and help Collingwood ensure a 5-5 draw.
