COLLINGWOOD Tennis Club’s mini tennis Orange team (age nine and under) won the County 9 and under tennis title last weekend after beating Ponteland in the grand final.
The team had qualified after topping their group.
The team of Gabe Allonby, Matthew Smith, Anna Winship, Dan Collins, Victoria Harman, Jez Piper, Anna Ruoff beat Ponteland Panthers by six matches to four.
This latest victory meant Collingwood dominated the County mini leagues, winning both Red (eight and under) and the Orange (nine and under).
Number one Allonby got the team off to a flying start with a straight set win before Collins was pegged back from a set up but showed great fight despite losing out in three close sets.
Smith, using good topspin forehands, also won the first set before losing a very close three setter.
Winship won the battle of the girls to draw the tie level at 2-2.
Allonby and Collins then both won the reverse singles to give Collingwood a 4-2 lead.
The lead was pegged back to 4-4 in the other reverse singles before both doubles teams of Allonby/Smith and Collins/Winship both won to secure victory.
The other county winning mini Red teams were Collingwood Crew: Josh Harrison, Sam Thompson, Clara Louglin, James McMeekan, Mya Matthews and Ben Kernohan; and Collingwood Cougars: Jack Boddy, Mia Gales, Libby Hall, Lucy Giles, Christian Sharp and Ellis Collings.
