Collingwood Tennis Club girls’ 14 and under team had an epic shoot-out victory over a strong Cramlington outfit boasting four county players.
The win takes Collingwood top of the Aegon Northeast Division 1 table with lots of strong teams still to play.
Clara Loughlin and Jasmine Hacioglu dragged Collingwood back into the match, winning their singles and doubles in straight sets after Mia Wallace and Emily Harrison had lost to county opposition from Northumberland and Durham.
Loughlin was the star of the shoot-out with a cheeky slice ace at 8-8, holding her nerve to put the pressure back onto the opposition who duly double faulted to hand Collingwood the match and the points.
Collingwood’s mini orange team also enjoyed a good opening day win, over Cullercoats, with Ethan Veitch proving an unbeatable No.1 player and teaming up well with Elizabeth Graham at No.1 doubles.
Polly Allonby and Adam Jones both went unbeaten in singles and doubles to register a good 9-1 victory.
Collingwood’s boys’ 12s also won against a tough David Lloyd team with Sam Thomspon and Tom Walsh proving strong at three and four singles, and with Josh Harrison coming back from 3-0 down to win in straight sets, Collingwood enjoyed a 4-2 victory.
