Crusaders overpower Ravens in rain and snow

North Shields Crusaders hosted Newcastle Ravens in the league in a match that took place in rain and snow on a bitter winter’s day.

The first score came from the visitors as they capitalised on a mistake by Crusaders to score under the posts.

But they hit back with a try from Jack Rendles before taking the lead through Adam Eglin’s first try for the club to make it 10-7.

Then Peter Finlay crossed over for a try with Matthew Padden adding the conversion.

The final score of the half was a try for Chris Allott with Padden adding the extras to give a half-time score of 24-7.

In the second half Crusaders scored two further tries from Gavin Duffy and Leon Van-Zandvliet on his debut. Padden successful with one of the conversion attempts to make the final score 36-7.

The man of the match decision was awarded to Eglin on his first start for Criusaders, as he got the nod with Richard Sampson and Tony Jordan the others in contention.

Next week Crusaders are away to Novos Centurions, 2.15pm kick-off.
