Cullercoats boys’ tennis team enjoy a good win

Cullercoats boys 18 and under team enjoyed a good victory at home to Cramlington last Sunday.

Olly Drake and Phil Rudd at number one and two won their singles in straight sets and combined well as a new doubles pair to also take their game in two sets, ensuring at least a match shoot-out.

With Jo Haines losing at number four singles it was down to Miles Pearson to save the match for Cullercoats, which he duly did, winning in straight sets for a much needed 4-2 win.

Meanwhile Cullercoats boys 14s had mixed results, losing in the shoot-out to Bohemians first team with Dom Gunning and Ryan Maughan winning singles matches and Tom Whiting-Adams teaming up well with Ryan Maughan to win the number one doubles.

Cullercoats pair of Whiting-Adams and Joe Angus were unlucky in the match shoot-out to go down 10-4.

The same team had better results against Bohemians second team the following day, winning comprehensively with Ryan Maughan, Joe Angus, Dom Gunning and Peter Black winning all singles and doubles in a 6-0 scoreline to maintain third place in the league.
