Cullercoats Tennis Club gets new season under way

A new season has begun at Cullercoats Tennis Club offering coaching and social play.

As from April 1, an extensive coaching programme ed by head coach Stuart Cass is available for players of all ages and abilities, with new members welcome.

Coaching for juniors is on Saturdays and Thursdays.

On Saturdays, mini red/tots (age four to eight years) are from 9am to 10am, mini red team players/advanced are from 10am to 11am, mini orange (nine to 12 years) are from 11am to noon, mini green (ten to 12 years) are from noon to 1pm, full ball (11 to 14 years) are from 1pm to 2pm, full ball (team players/teenagers) are from 2pm to 3pm.

The mini tennis session for tots (three to five years) and mini red (six to nine years) on Thursdays is from 4pm to 5pm with mini orange/green age (nine to 13 years) from 5pm to 6pm.

The cost of junior membership is £35, which includes eight weeks of free coaching, year-round access to the courts, family social doubles tournaments, club tournaments and team matches. Subsequent coaching is £3.50 per session.

The club, on Beverley Gardens next to St George’s Church, also offers a family membership for £220 – two parents and two children.

Adult membership is £110 (if paid before 28 April) which entitles members to free coaching on Sundays from April to September.

Absolute beginners are from 5pm to 6pm, improvers from 6pm to 7.30pm and team/social club players from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Play is possible all year round due to three flood-lit astroturf courts. Work is currently underway to refurbish the clubhouse thanks to a £60,000 grant from SITA Trust.
