DAN McDermott did the double of boys 16s and 18s singles titles last weekend at Collingwood Tennis Club’s tournament finals day.
McDermott won the 18s title beating Sam Volpe 6-1, 6-4 and the 16s beating Harry Cox 6-4, 1-6, 10-3.
Nine junior finals were played on Saturday at Priors Park in Tynemouth.
Samm Brown also did the double of winning the girls 18s and ladies singles titles to become the youngest ladies singles winner for years.
However, the match of the day was the girls green ball ten and under final between Clara Loughlin and Mia Wallace.
Wallace took the first set 4-2 only for Loughlin to come back and win the second 4-1 with some ferocious forehands.
Some fantastic tennis was played in the third set tie break by both players and each had match points before Wallace eventually came through to win 11-9.
Sam and Gabe Allonby both won their age group singles against Harry Cox and Alex Jay respectively before teaming up together to win the 12 and under doubles by beating Emily Harrison and Alex Jay in the final.
Jacob Eccles played some fantastic power tennis to beat James McMeekan in three close sets in the eight and under boys, as did Josh Harrison in overcoming Sam Thompson in two sets to win the nine and under boys title.
After the presentations by club chairman Neil Carmichael, 14 pairs battled it out for the family doubles title which was eventually won by Team Ridley.
