Depleted Rockcliff side put in the effort

A DEPLETED Rockcliff squad travelled to a wet and windy North Yorkshire with a much changed team to take on league leaders Guisborough.

But despite missing many first team regulars the replacements stood up to the plate against intimidating opposition who thought all they had to do was to turn up to win the match.

With the strong wind behind them Rockcliff held strong in the first half, conceding one try but scoring two long range penalties from the boot Adrian McKeown

They deservedly went into the break ahead by a point at 6-5.

The expected onslaught followed in the second half with Guisborough running in five tries, but Rockcliff kept battling and scored the final try of the match in a move that involved virtually every team member and was finished off by Jonny Birkett.

Rockcliff can take heart from the display and can build upon the spirit shown.

Man of the match went to Neil Thornton, who put in some great work and did not miss a tackle.

Josh Donnelly, Dan Johnstone and Jonny Birkett also stood out, but the whole team performed well.
