Cullercoats Boys’ tennis teams had a double winning weekend with victory over Alnwick in the 16s and Jesmond in the 12s Northumberland League.
Cullercoats 12s had a convincing 6-0 with Fred Stewart and Joseph Angus combining well to win a close doubles and take both singles in convincing fashion. Debutant Oscar Daniel performed like a seasoned pro in winning his singles in straight sets and teaming up with brother Cameron to take the doubles without conceding a game.
For the 16s, Tom Whiting Adams, Alfie Briggs and Peter Black all won singles and Jo Angus was unlucky to lose a close third set tie-break on his 16s debut.
With both doubles going the way of Cullercoats the home team took a fine 5-1 victory.
Cullercoats ran its mini tennis red and orange qualifying tournament on Saturday in preparation for the finals in September.
Olly Cass, Alex Licciardi, Georgia Peterson and Sophie Jackson all qualified from the reception and Year 1 event.
Evey Walker, Scarlett Wilson Baker, Max Boxshall and Dougie Gauld qualified from the Year 2 group, to be joined by Zoe Parkin and Sam Knowles.
In the mini orange event, eventual qualifiers were Paul Freeman, Alfie Stokes, Zoe Parkin and Olivia Peterson.
Tennis camps are running every week from Cullercoats and Collingwood tennis clubs from Tuesday to Friday, from 10am to 2pm for mini tennis (four to nine) and full ball tennis (ten and above).
