Emma gets an award for her tireless work at club

A STALWART of Whitley Bay Barbarians Rugby League club has been honoured with a top award.

Emma Hargreaves has been awarded a North Tyneside Commendation Award.

The tireless volunteer has numerous positions within the club – from secretary to manager of the under-18s side.

The chairman of North Tyneside’s Commendation Awards were introduced to show appreciation to those individuals (or groups of individuals).

The scheme is designed to recognise those who give unselfishly to others in terms of their kindness, time and effort, and have made an outstanding contribution to their local community through all kinds of volunteering, much of which will have involved a commitment over long periods of time.

Jade Mackie, a volunteer co-ordinator involved with the awards, said: “Emma is not only the club secretary; dealing with player registrations and CRBs and the under-16s team manager at Whitley Bay Barbarians, she has worked tirelessly over the past 12 months in order for the club to achieve Clubmark Gold Status.

“I am more than aware of all the time, effort and commitment it entails to achieve Clubmark and Emma has been the driving force behind pulling all the requirements together so Whitley Bay can hold such a high accolade.

“Over the past 12 months I have worked closely with Emma on a variety of aspects regarding Whitley Bay and she has the best interests of the club at heart.

“I am so happy Emma has been recognised for all her hard work and effort.”

The awards are based around a committment to building strong, active communities within the borough.

People volunteer for a wide range of reasons and whatever the reason voluntary activity is an essential ingredient in promoting and building more active healthy communities.
