Ethan Veitch won his opening fullball singles match for Collingwood 12 and under boys’ team last weekend, despite only being eight-years-old.
Ethan showed great determination to win a close three set match for Coillingwood’s only point against a strong Churchill team.
Jacob Eccles Josh Barnaby and Malcolm Winton all played well but lost in straight sets to the league’s strongest team in a 5-1 reverse
Collingwood girls were in fine form winning all three fixtures last weekend.
The girls’ 12s A team of Jasmine Hacioglu, Mia Wallace, Libby Hall and Anna Winship beat Shotley 6-0 to the loss of only six games, whilst the 16s A team of Ailsa Denholm, Hannah Chapman, Esmai Jonczyk-Brown and Laura Day also beat Shotley 6-0 with the loss of only three games.
Collingwood girls’ 16s B team also enjoyed a good win over Cullercoats with Adeline Myburgh and Amy Hedworth winning singles and combining with Molly Robinson and Emily Harrison respectively to take both doubles for Collingwood in a 4-2 win.
Not to be outdone, Collingwood boys’ 12s also enjoyed an opening day Northumberland League win over Shotley 6-0 with Josh Barnaby stepping into the first team like an old pro.
First team regulars Matt Smith, Sam Thompson and Dan Collins showed much improvement in winning all singles and doubles in straight sets so that Collingwood top the boys 12s A league.
