The first social badminton tournament for over 50s only is being organised by the North Tyneside Badminton Partnership in February.
It will take place on Sunday, February 15, at The Parks Leisure Centre in North Shields, starting at 1pm and lasting until 5pm.
Players must have reached 50 years of age on January 1, 2015.
Events will be men’s, women’s and mixed doubles. All matches will initially be played in groups, so everyone will get plenty of games.
Volunteers from the North Tyneside Badminton Partnership will be helping to ensure that the event runs smoothly.
The emphasis will be on friendly competition, and it will be an opportunity for players to meet and play against different people.
No league or county players will be allowed to enter – this is an event aimed at social, casual players who play for fun.
Entry fees are £5 for one event or £8 for two.
Trophies for the winners and runners-up in all events have been donated by Jamil Khan of Jeera Tandoori in Albion Road, North Shields.
He has been a regular competitor in the North Tyneside adult social tournaments and has enjoyed these so much that he offered to provide prizes for this event as well as for the next open age social tournament in March.
Entry forms for the over 50s tournament can be obtained from leisure centres in North Tyneside, telephoning the tournament secretary on (0191) 290 3358 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
The closing date for entries is Monday, February 9.
