Lawn green bowling is growing in popularity as a sport among both young, old and disabled, giving an ideal mix of healthy activity, skill and competition along with the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy social events at your local club.

North Tyneside is fortunate to have one of the best bowling greens in the country, with wonderful sea views, at Rockcliffe, in Victoria Park Whitley Bay.

The club recently won the John Porter Cup, and is looking for more success in the new season.

It has teamed up with the Bowls Development Alliance to promote an open day, on Bank Holiday Monday, May 26, where anyone interested can learn from registered coach and attend free follow up coaching sessions. The club’s four tennis courts will also be free on that day.

Club chairman Darryl Illingworth said: “We want as many people as possible to have the opportunity to enjoy these wonderful facilities and keep fit and healthy while they do it.

“We will provide equipment, all you have to do is turn up, enjoy a game and free tea, coffee and cake.”

The open day will run from 10am to 4pm with follow up coaching opportunities each subsequent Saturday, for four weeks, from 2pm until 4pm.
