UP to 50 young gymnasts from one of the region’s leading gymnastics club are to hold an Olympic-themed competition on Saturday.
Tyne Met Gymnastics Club, which has won more than 40 medals in competitions since forming less than two years ago, will be joined by Commonwealth Games gymnast Rob Hunter as they compete under the flags of nine different nations at the Tyne Met Gymnasium, just off the Coast Road, Wallsend.
Entry is £3 (£1.50 concessions), with stalls, refreshments and an opening and closing ceremony.
The head coach at Tyne Met, Lynsey White, said: “The boys and girls have had a brilliant year and all of them have developed their skills enormously.
“They are all really looking forward to competing against each other and representing a country for the day.”
The day’s events start at 9.30am and will run through to the prize-giving at around 4pm.
