Hanlon hat-trick as unbeaten Rockcliff Rangers beat Newcastle Ravens

Whitley Bay Rockcliff Rangers saw off 2014 with another great win in the Northumberland River Derwent League as they sent Newcastle Ravens packing.

After an evenly balanced first half they proved too strong for a well drilled Ravens pack and maintained their undefeated run this season.

An early try for Charlie Murray saw Rangers start strong with Chris Forster converting for 7-0.

However, a quick ball from a Ravens scrum saw No.8 Adam Garner score under the posts, with Josh Bell adding the extras to make it to make it 12-7.

Another try in quick succession saw the Ravens take the lead through Derek Wilson, making it 7-12 to the visitors.

But Paul Thompson put Rangers back in front, with another conversion from Chris Forster making it 14-12 at half-time.

In the second half Rangers upped their game with a wonderful pick up and go from scrum-half Thompson, who ran half the length of the pitch before off-loading to Dan Timney to score in the corner.

Rob Straker was in his element scoring two tries, making it 31-12 to the home side.

Ravens responded with their third and final try through Neil Hanlon, but Straker put the final nail in the coffin scoring a final blistering hat-trick try to take the final score to 36-17.
