Harriers field six teams in road relay

IT was a day of success and high emotion as Wallsend Harriers competed at the North East Road Relay Championships at Hetton le Hole last weekend.

The prestigious event is popular with the region’s top athletes and Wallsend fielded an impressive six teams.

In the ladies/veteran 4 x 2.2 mile race, female club captain Vicky Hindson made what can only be described as a tactical masterstroke by using her knowledge of her fitness and form to split the teams in order to give them every chance of success.

The team of Emma Walton, Kathryn Robertson, Ruth Marshall and Chrystal Skeldon were rewarded with a well deserved bronze.

A great achievement for a close knit group. The senior ladies finished fifth.

In the men’s/veteran 6 x 2.2 mile relay, the veteran men, not wanting to be outdone and being weakened due to a couple of last minute injuries finished just outside the medals in fourth.

The team were Graeme Armstrong, Barry Alsop, Terry O’Gara, Paul Brown, Brian Hetherington and club captain Mick Skeldon.
