Howzat for fun as youngsters enjoy cricket

YOUNG cricketers have been taking part in a series of cricket events around the borough.

Pupils from George Stephenson High School took part in the Kings School eight-a-side hard ball competition for school Years 7 and 8.

The festival was a great experience for the team who are now playing more and more competitive hard ball cricket.

Elsewhere, the Year 7 and 8 inter cricket team from Seaton Burn College took part in the Tyne and Wear sports games at Silksworth.

They qualified by winning their regional inter cricket festival and held their own by finishing fourth in the competition.

And a group of children from Shiremoor Primary School are celebrating after being awarded the MCC Spirit of Cricket award from Chance to Shine.

Shiremoor were the school deemed to have played their games in the correct manor with respect for their team mates and opponents.
