As rain swept across the north east on Saturday morning, Percy Main did well to get play their game against Shotley Bridge on as a communication error meant the ground was left uncovered despite the wet forecast.
Despite this, an entertaining reduced 25 overs per side game was achieved with the Villagers able to reach 122-3 from their allotted overs with Mitch Reid top scoring with 44.
Skipper Barry Stewart added 25 and Mickey Phillips hit an entertaining 28 from 20 balls.
In reply, Shotley Bridge were in a little bit of trouble at 22-2 after Stewart and Dave Anderson took two quick wickets, however, Ryan Pringle of Durham and Shotley Bridges’ professional, took the game away from Main with an explosive 58 from 33 balls before being dismissed by Mark Armstrong to help Shotley Bridge overcome Percy Main’s total.
This was a much improved performance from Percy Main who will look to build on this as they travel to Ponteland on Saturday.
In the second team fixture at Greenside, Steve Patterson and Tony Robson ripped through Greenside to dismiss them for 50 after they had been 30 without loss.
Patterson took 6-16 and Robson 3-1 including a stunning caught and bowled effort.
Laurie Robson excelled behind the stumps also with two stumpings and a catch.
In reply, Marty Smith helped Main over the line with an unbeaten 20.
The midweek XI lost away to Ashington in a one-sided encounter.
