Wallsend’s Bushido Judo Kwai member Lydia Bamford has won the club’s highest honour – The Stephen Milsted Award.
The award is presented to the student who finishes the club’s year at the top of the medal chart.
Lydia, 10, who has been at the club for almost two years, was presented with her trophy by Sharon Holman May, who as a junior also won the same award in 1982. Joint second place went to Jessie Beckingham and Jack Barnett.
The Bushido Judo Kwai train on Monday and Fridays from 6.30pm to 8pm at the Kings Estate Residents’ Association, Milfield Avenue, Wallsend NE28 9JF.
