COLLINGWOOD mini tennis Red eight and under team last weekend won the Northumberland winter mini tennis Red B league to go with the A league which the other Collingwood team won last month.
Neither league is higher than the other so to win both showed strength in depth at the coastal club.
Last weekend was the Collingwood Crew’s closest match against, Stocksfield Performance Red, and after a fine start by Josh Harrison in beating the opposite number one player 10-7, the match went down to the wire.
Number one and two, club champion Harrison and Sam Thompson again played well in the team environment, winning three out of four matches each.
Clara Loughlin was unlucky despite some big serving to lose two close matches 11-9 and 10-8.
And James Mcmeekan, who was by far the youngest competitor, did well for the team to come away with a victory.
Every point was well fought for and needed as the end result was an 8-8 draw, meaning Collingwood won the league with a 78 per cent winning ratio.
The other squad players who were not playing last weekend but competed well for the team over the season were Ben Kernohan and Mya Matthews.
If the leagues now have a play-off it will be Collingwood Crew v Collingwood Cougars to see who comes out as overall county champions.
