THE 2001 Newcastle and District Golf League got underway and local side Tynemouth were in action at coastal rivals Blyth.
Tynemouth’s team of six were a healthy mix of youth and experience and their top two, Stewart Fell and Dave Rodham, got their team off to a great start with solid wins against their more experienced Steve Brooks and Michael O’Neil.
Blyth’s middle order then fought back with wins against Austin Robinson, Phil McGovern and Ian Glendinning before Ian Watt halved his match against Steve Thompson. Final result 7-5 to Blyth.
The games produced some great golf and a host of birdies.
Tynemouth’s next game is at home to City of Newcastle tonight (Thursday) with matches starting from 5.30pm.
The City team boasts a number of plus handicap golfers including current Northumberland Stroke Play Champion Phil Ridden so more excellent golf is to be expected.
