North Tyneside Badminton Academy is launching a new initiative to give six to 11-year-olds the opportunity to learn how to play the game under the guidance of fully qualified coaches.
The sessions will take place in John Spence Community High School Sports Hall in North Shields as part of the existing 10am to noon Sunday sessions, which are already popular with a range of youngsters and teenagers of varying abilities.
Racquets and shuttles are provided, so anyone can turn up, play and have fun.
The first two sessions are free and for more information e-mail email@example.com
Meanwhile, entries are now open for the North Tyneside Junior Open Badminton Tournament, to be held on Sunday, March 20, also in the John Spence Sports Hall.
The tournament is being run jointly by the North Tyneside Badminton Partnership, North Tyneside Badminton Academy (the only affiliated junior badminton club in the borough), and Newcastle United’s Premier League 4 Sport, who have provided trophies for all winners and runners-up.
There will be four age groups, U13, U15, U17 and U19, with boys and girls’ singles and doubles competitions in each age group.
No county players are allowed to enter, making it an opportunity for players from all sorts of local badminton sessions to take part.
All events will be run initially in groups, so everyone is guaranteed a good number of games.
The closing date for entries is Monday, March 14 and entry forms can be obtained from local leisure centres, schools, and also from the tournament secretary by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
