New form of cricket heads to borough

A NEW form of cricket is to be given a test run in the borough aiming at nurturing young talent.

The Northumberland Cricket Board and the England and Wales Cricket Board have developed different ways to make the sport easier for adults to access the game, with one of those being Last Man Stands.

Last Man Stands is a global eight-a-side amateur Twenty20 Cricket League – and the action is on its way to North Tyneside.

The game features 20 overs per side, but with five balls per over instead of six, each side consists of eight players as opposed to the regulation 11, and sides can only be bowled out when all eight players are dismissed.

The newly established North Tyneside League winners will then be entered into the North of England Regional Finals, with the winner progressing into the nationals.
