North Shields travelled to Houghton in the league looking to continue their winning run against one of the side’s promoted last season.
The North Shields squad featured three Rendles as coach Tom was named on the bench with Jack and Scott starting at scrum-half and centre respectfully and two Finlay’s with Iain and Peter also among the replacements.
In the first half Shields played downhill and took advantage after Houghton missed a penalty kick opportunity.
The first try for the visitors came from centre Sam Turner in the corner.
Next on the score sheet was flanker Ben Dalton quickly followed by a try from No. 8 Andrew Leitch.
Shields let Houghton back into the game before half-time as they scored a try in the corner to make it 15-5.
Houghton got off to a strong start in the second half, scoring a converted try and penalty kick to draw level.
They then edged in front with another penalty kick for an 18-15 lead.
Shields re-took the lead through a try from Gavin Duffy which he converted to ensure they received the try bonus point.
Shields dominated the final quarter in front of the travelling support and sealed the victory with a second try from Dalton, the extras were added by Gavin Duffy to give a final score of 29-18.
Next week North Shields are at home in the league with Sunderland the visitors to Preston Playing Fields, kick-off 2.15pm.
