North Shields Crusaders played a combined South Tyneside College 2nd/3rd XV in a friendly fixture just before Christmas.
Crusaders saw Chris Spedding start at prop with Lee Gallon and Jordan Harris filling in the second row with the regulars absent.
South Tyneside started strongly and scored a converted try within minutes of the kick-off.
Christian Dina used his pace to run the length of the pitch to score for Crusaders before a second College try made the interval score of 12-5 to the visitors.
At half-time Gavin Duffy came on for his first appearance of the season after injury at full-back and Cole Charlton came on at hooker.
A try for Gallon was quickly followed by a try from Ryan Ramsey and conversion from Jack Rendles as Crusaders took the lead for the first time at 17-12.
Richard Sampson extended the lead with a try before two College tries levelled the scores at 22-22.
The winning score for Crusaders came from Ben Dalton with Rendles adding the extras and making a final score of an enjoyable game 29-22 to the hosts.
Thanks went to Tom Gallon who stepped in to referee the fixture at short notice.
Crusaders’ man of the match was given to winger Dina.
