North Shields Polytechnic Athletics Club’s junior athletes are celebrating being promoted into division one of the North East Youth Development League for next season.
The Whitley Bay-based club have been building their junior team up gradually over the last four years in terms of numbers and individual performances and managed to win three out of the four league matches this summer that led to their promotion.
Group manager Laura Mole said: “This is a great success for both the team and the club, proving that our juniors are building and competing strongly.
“We had so many great performances and personal bests across all the ages, but one most notably was at the last match.
“Stella Perrett broke the league record across all the divisions in the under-15 girls’ 300m in a time of 42.9s, which ranks her No 1 in the north east. I am so very proud of this team and what we’ve achieved.
“Every single athlete has enjoyed themselves, and they have really gelled together, creating a very enthusiastic and encouraging team atmosphere where everyone is supportive of one another.
“Long may this continue, and hopefully we can be just as competitive in division one next season and stay up there for many years to come.”
The club is based at the Churchill Playing Fields in Whitley Bay. For details, go to www.nspoly.co.uk
