Members of North Shields Poly competed at the 6 & 4 Stage National Road Relay Championships on Saturday.
Having qualified at the Northern Championships in Warrington, the club was able to send two teams - a men’s and a ladies’ team to the nationals.
The teams, which included six men and four ladies, along with club captain Vaughan Hemy and supporters, left the clubhouse at 6.30am on Saturday morning, arriving at Sutton Park, Birmingham, mid morning to wet and wintery conditions.
The weather improved as the races commenced and a fantastic day’s racing ensued.
Racing amongst the top athletes in the country the men, who each completed a 6k leg, finished 59th and the ladies, who each completed a 4.3k leg, finished 40th.
A fantastic achievement for the club to field both teams for the first time in a number of years.
