A North Tyneside archery club is holding a ‘have-a-go’ open day this weekend as it looks to raise the sport’s profile in the area.
The Bowmen of Backworth group is promoting the activity through the event.
The club will provide all the equipment and instruction for those keen to experience the Olympic sport.
Apart from the opportunity for people to have-a-go, there will also be various forms of archery demonstrated on the day.
These will include using the simple long bow to the ultra-modern compound bow, which, to the bystander, has an amazing conglomeration of strings, pulleys and bits stuck on everywhere.
The event is part of Archery GB’s national ‘Big Weekend’.
The open day is on Saturday, May 24, at the Backworth Miners Welfare in Backworth.
It runs from 11am to 4pm with free car parking.
The event is open to all and there will be a small charge for the use of the arrows.
