Fresh from their victory over an Argentinian side St Albans College, Percy Park RFC U17s made the short trip to Northern for the finals of the U17 Northumberland 7s where, for the first time at this age group, they won the cup and in the process did not concede a single point.
Park opened against Ponteland and their vigorous defence and discipline at the breakdown enabled them to hold the opposition and eventually force a mistake.
Using their hard runners, Park made ground close to the breakdown before releasing their speed men out wide.
Towards the end of the half the Ponteland defence was eventually breached as Park took a 7-0 half-time.
Park added more scores before Josh Cheung left the defence in his wake for a memorable try. Jamie Wrigs added the final score to make it 26-0.
Park then beat Morpeth 36-0 to secure the title.
Whilst the backs had ruled the roost against Ponteland, it was the forwards who dominated the game this time around.
Ciaran Wrightson in particular proving to be a master of the breakdown.
Two tries up at half-time, Park cut loose in the second half – their pre-season fitness work giving them a distinct advantage as four further tries followed.
